Egypt beat Australia to reach Brazil’s quarter-finals in Olympic football

a brazilian men’s football team face Egypt in the quarter finals of Tokyo Olympic Games-2020. With the end of the group stage of the tournament this Wednesday, clashes were defined. The Africans beat Australia 2-0 at Miyagi, finished second in Group C and got in the way of a team led by coach Andre Jardin in Saitama this Saturday at 7 a.m. (from Brasilia).

Egypt’s qualification was surprising in that it also eliminated Argentina, one of the favorites for Olympic gold, in a 1–1 draw with Spain in the other fixture in the group. With four points, the African team ended in a draw with the South American, but remained ahead due to a goal difference: 1 against 1. And last Sunday, Argentina beat the Egyptians 1-0.

With a tie against Argentina, Spain added five points on the leaderboard to finish first in the group, and begin the quarter-finals against Cte d’Ivoire, who is second in Brazil’s bracket, this Saturday at 5 pm. time.

Other sports – neither Spain, Argentina, Germany or Brazil. The team that finished the group stage with 100% success was Japan. The hosts, the leaders of Group A, beat France 4-0 in Yokohama this Wednesday and eliminated the Europeans.

In the first half, Japanese goals were scored by midfielder Takefusa Kubo in the 26th minute and right-back Hiroki Sakai in the 33rd minute. 24th minute forward Daizen Maeda closed the account in extra.

Japan’s rivals in the quarter-finals will be New Zealand, who pulled off a goalless draw with Romania and finished second in Group B. The match is scheduled for this Saturday at 6 am in Kashima.

In the end, South Korea finished first in Group B after beating Honduras 6–0 and finished second in Group B after beating South Africa 3–0 in Yokohama.
