Kate Bush's 'Running Up That Hill' reaches number one 37 years after release

Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ broke a record by topping the UK charts 37 years after the song’s release.

Interest in the 1985 song resurfaced after it appeared in the new season of Wonderful thing to Netflix.

After taking flight on social media among young fans, many of whom were hearing Bush’s music for the first time, the song began to climb charts around the world, causing Bush to make an unusual public statement To thank the fans for their support.

On Friday (June 17), it was announced that ‘Running Up the Hill’ had reached number one on the Official Singles Chart, a feat never achieved when the song debuted in 1985 and peaked at number three.

Bush’s return to the charts broke three major records in UK chart history.

The song broke the record previously held by Wham! It took longer than the single (for ‘Last Christmas’) to reach number one on the official singles chart.

At 63, Bush is also the oldest female artist to have a No. 1 single and the biggest gap in history between No. 1 singles, last topping the charts in 1978 with ‘Wuthering Heights’.

Earlier this week, Bush returned to his blog to share his surprise when “Running Up the Hill” climbed the charts.

Describing it as “exciting”, he wrote: “There are many positive reactions to the song. I’ve never experienced anything like this before!”

“Many thanks again to the Duffer Brothers for their last extraordinary series Wonderful thingA whole new audience is discovering music.”
