Six newborn babies die in fire at children’s hospital in India

Six newborn babies died in a fire at a children’s hospital in the Indian capital, New Delhi. The incident occurred on Saturday night (25) and according to the local fire department, the fire started in a neighboring building and spread to the hospital.

The cause of the fire has not yet been revealed, but Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal declared that “whoever is responsible for this negligence will not be spared”. This statement was published on social media. Police also reported that the owner of the children’s hospital fled.

Fire breaks out at children’s hospital in India

Firefighters still managed to rescue six other newborns who were rushed to another hospital. The children have not yet been identified, as birth records were not available at the time of the rescue.

One of the newborns who were rescued is in critical condition and is breathing with the help of a lung ventilator. The remaining babies are receiving medical care.

Second fire in less than 24 hours

This is the second incident of fire in the country in less than 24 hours. Apart from this, an amusement park in India also caught fire on Saturday night (25), killing at least 27 people, including four children.

According to information given to the press by a local fire department official, the fire broke out in a two-storey structure at the amusement park, where more than 300 people were present.

The district fire chief, I V Kher, told Reuters that “the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.” The incident is being investigated by a special investigation team.
