RogueAn Amazon Prime movie that brings the duo together good place, Kristen Bell and Kirby Howell-Baptiste, premieres this Friday (25/3). The comedy is directed by Aaron Gaudet and Geeta Pulapilli.

The film is based on a true story and follows Connie, a housewife obsessed with coupons, and her best friend JoJo, a dream blogger. After sending an email to the company responsible for branding broken cereal boxes and receiving an apology along with dozens of free gifts, the two decide to create an illegal Coupon Club scheme, defrauding corporations in exchange for discounts.

The director duo said in an interview Hollywood Reporter, who found the story behind the film on the Coupon Blog “along with a few sentences about the plan.” The case was considered the largest illegal coupon scheme in US history, in which three women were arrested. The investigation found fraudulent exemptions to the tune of about $25 million.

“We called a detective in Phoenix and talked to him about what exactly was a legitimate case and the impact this plan has had on our economy,” Pulpilli says. “We spent time with him, understanding the matter, what happened, the ‘mechanics’ of what he did and the fate of the money earned from selling counterfeit coupons.”
