Three Portuguese films were selected for the Visions du Réal ceremony - Observador

Three Portuguese films by Echo Costa, Susanna Nobre and Monica Martins Nunes will be screened in April at the Swiss documentary film festival Vision du Reuel in virtual format.

The international competition for medium and short films are “Sortes”, by Monica Martins Nunes, and “Timkat”, by Echo Costa, Both at the world premiere.

“Sortage”, 38 minutes in length, is a film with a Portuguese-German production, shot in Alentezzo, which records the human and rural landscape of Serra de Serpa, marked for desert. While in Berlin, Monica Martins Nunes is also the author of the film “No Ash Is Hot” (2016).

“Timcat”, by Ico Costa, was shot in Ethiopia and records a religious ritual of purification and baptism, bringing thousands of people together along the banks of the Jordan River. The feature film “Alva” (2019) and the short film “Nyo Veta Nafta” (2917) are other films already signed by Echo Costa.

The “Latitudes” section of the Vision de Reel will feature the film “No Taxi do Jack”, which was presented by Portuguese director Susana Nobre earlier at the Berlin Film Festival in February.

In the film, which blends elements of documentary and narrative literature, Susanna Nobre tells the story of Joaquim Calcada, a former aircraft mechanic and driver who was displaced in the United States and returned to Portugal two decades later.
