LONDON, United Kingdom – Prince Harry was accused by the British press on Saturday of “ignoring the Queen” by canceling his appearance at Elizabeth II’s tribute to her husband Philip, who died in April 2021.
A spokesman for Prince Harry announced Friday that the Queen’s grandchildren would not attend a religious ceremony in Prince Philip’s honor later this month, without giving further details.
However the representative said that Harry would be visiting the Queen “soon”.
The British newspaper “The Sun” in its Saturday edition titled the phrase “Harry to Philip Rudeness”. In the pages of the newspaper, Angela Levine, the author of a book about Harry, says that, with his absence, the prince “does a ruse not only to the Duke of Edinburgh (the late Philip), but above all, to the Queen.”
Harry and his wife Meghan decided to separate from the British royal family in 2019 and move to California (USA).
Ceremonies in honor of Prince Philip, who died in April 2021 at the age of 99, will take place on March 29.
Although Queen Elizabeth II is expected to attend, her fragile health (deteriorating in recent months after being contaminated with COVID-19) raises doubts.
In the middle of the Silver Jubilee (reign of 70 years in February), the presence of the British monarch is increasingly rare.
After spending the night in the hospital for “preliminary examinations” (of which no details were released) in October, doctors recommended that Elizabeth II complete light tasks at Windsor Castle.
The Queen, who will turn 96 in April, informed via Buckingham Palace on Friday that she will not attend a religious event at Westminster Abbey (London) on Monday, her first major appearance in months .
