Aston Villa confirmed their new coach for the season’s sequel this Thursday (11). Steven Gerrard takes over for the position left by Dean Smith and returns to the Premier League, the elite of English football. At 41, Gerrard would have his first job as head coach of an English club. Prior to this, Gerrard had already passed through Liverpool’s youth teams.
Negotiations between Gerrard and Aston Villa lasted a few weeks, but the deal was eventually made official. Initially, according to the UK press, Koch signed a contract until June 2024. However, this information was not officially confirmed by Aston Villa.
