LONDON, June 16 (Xinhua) — Fu Hua, president of Xinhua News Agency, on Sunday met Stephen Perry, recipient of the China Reform Friendship Medal and honorary president of the British 48 Group Club.

Over the years, the 48 Group Club has made great contributions to promoting China-UK economic and trade exchanges as well as cultural and people-to-people exchanges, said Fu, who led a delegation to the UK.

Xinhua has always been committed to telling the stories of China-UK friendship well, he said, especially the stories of the “icebreakers” who have fought for China-UK friendship for generations.

Xinhua, he said, has spared no effort to carry forward the “ice-breaking spirit” and worked closely with the 48 Group Club to play a positive role in promoting the stable development of China-UK relations.

“Xinhua serves as an important window for the world to learn about China and an indispensable channel for understanding China’s development,” Perry said. He added that the 48 Group Club will continue its efforts to create more business opportunities between the UK and China.

In 1953, British businessmen represented by Stephen Perry’s father Jack Perry launched a business trip to China, boldly breaking the ideology ice and taking the lead in opening up the China-United Kingdom trade channel.
