Travel restrictions imposed by some European countries due to some coronovirus epidemics result in the 2022 World Cup qualifier starting in 2021, which will be in Qatar. In Asia, only four of the 20 matches scheduled for the 2022 World Cup qualifying round will be held in March. The rest of the schedule was postponed until June due to the current health protocol.

FIFA has extended an exemption from mandatory release rules amid epidemics as players from around the world may be prohibited by their clubs from joining their national teams.
