Brazil will host the America’s Cup 2022, the biggest basketball team event in the Americas. Confirmed by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) this Tuesday, 10 days after the end of the Olympic Games.

The forecast is for the tournament to be held in September next year. The upcoming competition in Brazil is a partnership between the Brazilian Basketball Confederation (CBB) and the sports marketing holding of the Brazilian football team player, Daniel Alves, gold medalist in Tokyo.

Four Brazilian cities will host the tournament, but candidates are still being verified and inspected. In total, 12 teams from across the continent will participate, all classified from February this year: Brazil, Argentina, the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Uruguay, Panama, the Virgin Islands and Colombia.

The last time Brazil hosted the tournament was in 1984. The initiative aims to develop the sport in the country so that it can be classified in the next edition of the Olympics in Paris-2024. Brazilian basketball failed to qualify for Tokyo.
