Ultimate is promoting this Saturday (6), in New York, USA, another high level event for MMA fans. The main fights of UFC 268 will consist of two title fights along with duels that have taken place in the past. In the main event, welterweight champion Kamaru Usman defended his title against challenger Colby Covington, while in the co-main event, strawweight belt holder Rose Namajunas will once again face former champion Weli Zhang.

Major in the welterweight division, Kamaru Usman heads to his fifth UFC title defense. At 34, the Nigerian has already faced Colby Covington at UFC 245 in 2019. At that time, Usman had won by TKO in the fifth round in a highly controversial bout. Reigning strawweight champion Rose Namjunas won the title in April this year with a graceful knockout over the Chinese in a one-minute duel against Weili Zhang. It is expected that once again this title fight will be exciting from start to finish.

In addition to the title disputes, three Brazilians will be in action at UFC 268, all on the starting card. A star in kickboxing, middleweight Alex Potton will make his debut against Andreas Michelidis at the Ultimate, while in the light heavyweight division, John Allen of Curitiba will face Dustin Jacobi. Also making his debut in the organization is featherweight Bruno Souza, a disciple of legend Lyoto Machida. Next to the athlete based in Belem (PA) will be Melsik Bagdasarian.

Two title fights shook the cards

Usman (19-1) intends to continue his dominance in the welterweight division this Saturday. Unbeaten in the UFC, he is currently on the division’s longest active winning streak with 14 straight wins, including wins over Jorge Masvidal (twice), Tyrone Woodley and Rafael dos Anjos. Usman is now aiming to beat Covington again and on his way to becoming the greatest welterweight of all time.

Covington (15-2), a former interim division champion, is looking to finally win the linear welterweight title. One of the most talented wrestlers in welterweight history, he won over former UFC champions Tyron Woodley, Robbie Lawler, and Rafael dos Anjos. Covington is now trying to prove he has what it takes to dethrone Usman and begin his legacy with the belt.

A fan favorite, Namajunas (11-4) competes for the second time in a year for the first time since 2017 and looks to leave no doubt with another win over Zhang this Saturday. 3 in the women’s weight-by-weight rankings, Rose holds the record for most strawweight wins by submission, including wins over Joanna Jedrzyk, Michelle Waterson and Paige VanZant. She now plans to historicize her second race as champion and establish herself as the best straw weight ever.

Zhang (21-2) wants to take advantage of the rematch for the title and show that he is the best strawweight in the world. The first Chinese champion in UFC history, Zhang rose to prominence with notable victories over Jessica Stakeholder and Jessica Aguilar, as well as the 2020 Fight of the Year against former champion Joanna Jedrzejic. She now hopes to deliver an impressive performance and create another winning streak in the division.

UFC. on brazilian debut

UFC 268 will also mark the long-awaited debut of the two Brazilians at UFC Alex Poyton (3-1) and Bruno Souza (10-1). A kickboxing star, Alex has scored over 30 victories in the sport, including two current UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya – he is the only athlete to knock out Adesanya in the sport. Alex’s first challenge in the UFC will be Greek Andreas Michelidis (13-4), who comes with a win in May.

He will face Armenian Melsik Baghdahsaryan (6-1), coming off a two-win streak.

Another Brazilian will also participate in the event. At light heavyweight, former Contender Series contestant John Allen (13-6, 1 NC) makes his first fight in 2021 against Dustin Jacobi (15-5-1).
