Ian Botham, England’s great-granddaughter, was called up to the Wales rugby team for the first time in a dramatic way ahead of this week’s Fall Nations Cup international against Georgia on Monday.

But an hour before Monday’s announcement, it was announced that he had withdrawn from Pro 14 fixing.

Fans will have to wait until Thursday when Wales coach Wayne Piwak announces his team will play in Georgia to see if the Wales U-20 international Botham will start the full Test match against Lellos on Saturday at Lellos. Or not.

Botham is the son of Liam Botham, a former professional cricket, rugby union and rugby league player who made his debut for Cardiff in the 1990s.

Wing Johnny McNichol has also been included in the squad after missing the opening selection due to injury as Wales look set to face defeat in six Tests this weekend.

Botham has been in excellent form for Cardiff during his four games this season, with 16 tackles per match breast, with a 96 per cent success rate.

Ian Botham played 102 Tests for England from 1977-1992, and is widely regarded as one of the best all-rounders of his generation.

The 64-year-old former England captain, a supporter of Brexit, recently became a member of the House of Lords in the second elected chamber of the British Parliament and his official position is now Lord Botham.
