For the next two years, Russia has banned the use of its flag, name and song at the next two Olympic and World Championship Games, effectively reducing the length of the country’s suspension.

In a ruling announced Thursday, the court unanimously found the Arbitration for Sport that Russia was not complying with international anti-doping rules.

The World Anti-Doping Agency has called for a tougher four-year ban for Russia, although a Swiss court has upheld it. Emphasize that Lighter penalties should not be read as evidence of Russia’s actions.

“It has considered issues of proportion and, in particular, the need to influence cultural change and encourage the next generation of Russian athletes to participate in clean international sports,” the panel said. .

Russian athletes will still be allowed to compete in international competitions, the panel said, unless they are suspended “because the uniform does not carry the flag of the Russian Federation and contains the words ‘neutral athlete’,” and Russia’s national anthem is not played or sung at any official ceremony.
