FALmouth, UK, 12 June 2021 (AFP) – Thousands of environmentalists marched this Saturday (12) in a noisy and colorful rally in County Cornwall, south-west England, where their leaders urged their leaders to intensify efforts against asked for. Climate change.

The march, organized by the civil disobedience group Extinction Rebellion, visited the coastal town of Falmouth, about 25 miles from the Carbys Bay meeting of the seven largest economies and where the summit’s press center is located.

The banners were stamped with phrases like “actions, not words” and “if the sea died, we would die”.

“We can’t hear us from them,” said Falmouth’s mother-in-law Joyce, who was with her two children.

“I have a one-year-old grandson and I want his life to be unaffected by climate change and pollution,” retired David Oliver, 62, who travels from northwest England, told AFP.

In his view, G7 leaders are unwilling to make the necessary “radical” sacrifices to prevent catastrophic climate change.

Dozens of people, dressed in red to represent the accelerated rate of extinction of the species, led a walk through Falmouth.

The G7 is expected to formally discuss the fight against climate change and biodiversity conservation on Sunday, which will set the stage for COP26, the United Nations climate summit to be held in November in the Scottish city of Glasgow.

The leaders are expected to discuss protecting at least 30% of the world’s land and oceans by 2030, following a meeting with big businessmen on Friday to discuss advancing sustainable development efforts.

But activists want more detailed plans to be implemented quickly, with more aid provided to less favored countries.

Max Lawson of the NGO Oxfam said, “We have to push the G7 here in Cornwall to reduce our carbon emissions, but also to take the necessary steps to help poor countries fighting climate change. ”

As world leaders in swimsuits, Oxfam activists lay on the beach, mocking their inertia.
