US launches second edition of 100K Innovation Fund in Brazil

US and National Service for Industrial Learning (SENAI) partners join US embassies and consulates in Brazil and the State Department to launch the second competition of the 100K Innovation Fund, held this Thursday (14), exclusively for Brazil Event. Initiative. The initiative seeks to encourage collaboration between Brazilian and American higher education institutions.

The launch event took place virtually and was attended by the U.S. Embassy and Consulate Charge d’Affaires, Douglas Koneff, Director General of Senai, Rafael Luchesi, and representatives from two institutions honored in previous competitions – California State University – Fullerton and Universidad Estadual Paulista. (UNESP).

According to Koneff, the program is “one of our main programs to support participation in higher education in the Western Hemisphere and we aim to further strengthen the relationship between universities, innovation institutions and other institutions of higher, professional and technical education.” Committed”.

He also noted that this year, more institutions are eligible to compete, expanding the opportunities to offer more military teams. “Joint funding from Senai and the State Department will allow teams of Brazilian and North American institutions and students to seek solutions to real-world problems in a collaborative and multicultural environment”, he remarked.

By 2021, the competition will offer six grants to encourage and support new higher education partnerships in the United States and Brazil. Authorizations will be primarily for military institutions across the country. He concluded, “We are delighted to have partners with a shared vision at the State Department, the US Embassy in Brazil, and partners in the US. I look forward to these teams collaborating on innovative solutions that bring Brazil and the US closer together.” “

Teams from higher education institutions in the US and Brazil are invited to create innovative exchange and workforce development programs in various subject areas that will result in new opportunities for students at their home institutions and at host institutions in both countries.

Thematic areas in this new competition for the US-Brazil 100K Innovation Fund include: Climate and Environmental Solutions; Health Sciences and Public Health; artificial intelligence; Internet of Things; Cloud Computing; technology in education; agriculture and food science; water, sanitation and hygiene (wash); Biotechnology; Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), among others.
