Blumenau author wins major UK literary award

Author and illustrator Guilherme Carsten of Blumenau was featured in the book “Are You a Monster?”, published by the English publisher Happy Yak. was announced as the winner of the Booktrust Storytime 2024 Award for.

The aim of the award is to find the best book to share with children aged 0 to 5, encouraging families to visit local libraries. Held in more than 2,500 libraries in England and Northern Ireland, the program reached almost 50,000 children last year.

A panel of experts selected the books based on input from librarians and families. Nominees faced a public vote that highlighted the importance of community involvement in selecting the best children’s book.

The Brazilian author and illustrator, known for his children’s books published in more than 22 languages, has won the hearts of readers of all ages around the world.

Awards he has won include the Jabuti Award for “Best Illustrated Book” in 2021, the Golden Pinwheel Grand Award (China) in 2019, and the Golden Plaque at the Bratislava Illustration Biennial (Slovakia) in 2019.

In addition to visiting schools and book fairs, Carsten also attends lectures at events related to literature, childhood, education and creativity.
