The British royal family will have to postpone some official commitments General Election announcement by Prime Minister Rishi Sunaklast Wednesday (22). The decision, defined as “normal procedure”, was taken so as not to divert attention from the electoral campaign.
In a statement from Buckingham Palace, King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla made a statement, Sky News reports. “The royal family – in line with normal procedure – will postpone commitments that could be distracting or detract from the election campaign,” the text says.
Also through the statement, the couple “sincerely” apologized to anyone affected by the decision. Originally, the elections were to be held at the end of January 2025, but following a decision by Sunak, agreed with King Charles III, Parliament was dissolved and the date brought forward to 4 July.
