President of America, Joe Biden gave a speech on Thursday, 7th in which he defended the importance of vaccine requirements against COVID-19. Speaking in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, he said the uneducated “put the economy at risk” because they prevent other people from going out, for example by not going to restaurants or movie theaters.
Biden highlighted the work companies do to ensure their employees are vaccinated. He said in the coming weeks the Labor Department will publish a guideline for companies with more than 100 employees to ensure they are vaccinated or otherwise tested against Covid-19 once a week.
The US president acknowledged progress had been made and believed the country was moving “in the right direction” to conquer the pandemic, but he also acknowledged “there is still work to be done”. He recalled that more than a quarter of eligible people in the country are still not vaccinated, which poses risks such as the emergence of new, more dangerous forms of COVID-19.
